Stereotypes
I dislike stereotypes. Why can’t people be open minded?
There was an experiment with breaking waves in the oceanography lab. We injected dye, and was looking at wave patterns as traced out by the dye. Someone said “beautiful”. Someone else said “go to art scchool then”. Why are people so close minded, that appreciation of beauty is forbidden in a science lab?
The other time I was in an observatory, and the astronomer in charge for that night said we do not do astronomy for beauty. Beauty has got nothing to do with astronomy ? What the FUCK? Why? What’s wrong with us? Why are we against the idea of beauty? Why don’t we appreciate?
Why don’t we love what we do? Why doesn’t the thing we do mesmerize us? Why don’t we dream? Why are we not devoted enough? Where is the passion.
Someone (called Melani, whom I met in a Party in Germany, at Ioana’s) said she is studying bionics, because she is interested in Robotics. But why is she so casual? Someone else told me (He is called Johannes) he was doing forestry, and was telling me how he did time series analysis of swinging trees. He told me every step of what he did, and how he is passionate about it..
I consider myself lucky, because I know a person called Gianluca Masi, an astronomer, and entirely driven by passion. He is so passionate that he arranges observation nights over the internet, such that he shares his telescope observation live - live over the internet.
Why are not all scientists passionate about there work?
